People. Purpose. Practice.

Supporting organisations and businesses navigating the intersection of performance, responsibility and lasting impact.

Founded to help organisations navigate complexity and maximise impact

Organisations and businesses today operate in an increasingly complex environment shaped by overlapping crises, political uncertainty, shifting expectations, growing regulation, and constrained resources. At the same time, they are expected to deliver greater impact, stronger performance, and more sustainable results than ever before.

In this context, success requires more than good intentions. It requires strong organisations, effective systems, capable leadership, and practical solutions that can adapt to rapidly changing realities.

The Impact Practice was founded to help organisations and businesses navigate this complexity. We partner with clients to strengthen performance, responsibility, and lasting impact, combining strategic thinking with practical experience and a strong focus on implementation.

Because every organisation is different, we do not believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. Instead, we combine evidence, experience, fresh perspectives, and practical insight to help clients understand what works, identify where change is needed, and design realistic pathways towards stronger organisations and better outcomes.

At the heart of our work is a simple idea: helping organisations translate purpose and investment into practice and impact.

We stay curious

About your context, your constraints, the people your work touches.

We tell the truth

Gently where possible. Clearly where necessary. Always.

We keep people in view

Every recommendation lands somewhere real. We don't lose sight of that.

We get stuck in

We don't sit on the sidelines. We roll up our sleeves and help move things forward.

We know what we don't know

We bring expertise and we bring questions. We're honest about which is which.

Founder & Principal Consultant

The Idea Behind The Impact Practice

A strong voice for human rights, child protection and responsible organisational leadership, Thomas Müller has spent over two decades working at the intersection of policy, practice and systemic change. From grassroots community work to international development, from forging public-private partnerships between governments, companies and civil society, to influencing national, regional and global policies, legislation and regulation, his work has spanned 100+ countries across extensive periods living and working in Europe, Africa and Asia.

Thomas's work is grounded in a conviction that lasting change requires both strategic clarity and operational courage. Throughout his career he has led, supported and guided change processes at every level, from constitutional reform in global NGOs, to designing and managing large-scale research processes, building safeguarding systems for organisations, supporting purpose-driven start-ups, helping businesses manage risk, and working with governments to design programmes that keep people at the centre.

Time and again Thomas observed that organisations rarely lack the will to change, they lack the moment. Caught between the urgency of delivery and the inertia of the familiar, change gets deferred until the environment forces it. By then, what should have been a manageable transition has turned into a much harder climb. With that in mind, Thomas founded The Impact Practice in 2023, bringing together key experts from different field to address the assignments and challenges organisations face today.

Thomas holds a BA in Social Pedagogy from the University of Bamberg and an MA in Non-Profit Management from the University of Kaiserslautern-Landau. He is a guest lecturer at Thammasat University and is regularly invited to speak at conferences and universities on human rights, child protection, civic space and sustainable business practice.

A Global Network Built for Impact

The challenges organisations and businesses face today rarely fit neatly within a single discipline, sector, or geography. They require diverse perspectives, specialised expertise, and a deep understanding of context.

The Impact Practice was designed with this reality in mind. Rather than maintaining a large permanent team, we bring together carefully selected experts from around the world, assembling bespoke teams that combine global expertise, local insight, and practical experience to meet the unique needs of each client.

Putting change into practice

You're here because something needs to change. Maybe you're driving it — a new direction, a sharper strategy, a more effective way of working. Or maybe change is arriving whether you're ready or not, and you need to stay relevant to your clients and target groups, remain impactful and efficient, and keep succeeding in a shifting environment.

Either way, you're in the right place.

The Impact Practice is built around change — what it takes to design it well, deliver it effectively, and make it last.

Our services span the full cycle of the change process, from designing, to delivering change, sustaining change, strengthening change, and understanding change.

Whatever stage you're at, we bring the thinking, the tools and the people to move you forward.

A strong strategy provides clarity of purpose and direction. It helps organisations align people and resources around shared priorities, make informed decisions, anticipate change, measure progress, and remain focused on their mission rather than being driven solely by crises, opportunities, or external pressures.

The Impact Practice helps organisations, networks, and initiatives develop clear, ambitious, and achievable strategies that provide a confident pathway towards meaningful change. Our consultants bring experience supporting the development of local, national, regional, and global strategies across advocacy, capacity building, campaigning, programme development, organisational transformation, and network-wide strategic planning.

Combining strategic thinking with practical implementation experience, we work with clients to create strategies that are not only inspiring, but actionable, realistic, and capable of delivering lasting impact.

If your organisation is developing a new strategy, reviewing an existing one, or simply needs a sounding board for strategic thinking, we would be delighted to help. Reach us at info@theimpactpractice.net.
